A New Felt Bracelet & A Bad Diagnosis

I just had to hop in today to show you a super duper cool new bracelet I just made for myself.
It's recycled felt with vintage buttons and is all hand stitched...

I am toying with the notion of opening a 2nd Etsy shop for my hand-stitched felt goodies,
But for now I may just start listing them in my original shop.

Would any of you consider buying a bracelet like this for yourselves if I offered them???

I've been having big troubles with my drawing wrist...
It's been pretty bad and has had me on edge for quite some time,
The doctors were hoping for Carpel Tunnel or Tendentious,
because those can be cured and treated with surgery and physio.
BUT, apparently I have 'Repeative Stress Syndrome'...
and I am told by the wrist doctor that the shooting pain that wakes me up from sleep,
the achiness & the yucky tightness and weakness (even when it's at rest!)
will only get worse and worse...
I am not a happy camper, not with this negative diagnosis...
And. I admit to getting teary in the specialist's office because the idea of more constant troubles,
when I already have severe migraines and a dislocating knee to always deal with, feels like too much...
UGH UGH UGH!

So I made myself this bracelet to kinda cheer up my own wrist, ha ha.

I am still trying to pin-point what is too much art making & what I can get away with comfortably.
Right now every little activity causes me discomfort
However, I refuse to not make artwork, it's who I am.
Though the idea of having this pain & trouble to worry about whenever
I do work on artwork is quite honestly sending me for a loop.

I am going to have patience & hope & seek a 2nd opinion because the very negative
'There's nothing you can do about it' attitude just doesn't work for me, certainly not as a full time artist!
and I am going to take extra good care of it, with heat therapy and more frequent art breaks,
and today I am seeking an acupuncturists help...

WISH ME LUCK!

XO Mandy

Great bracelet. Very unique.

You wrist will get better, I think you need a second opinion, in my opinion. The "dr." that did the tests seemed more intersting in complaining that he had to work, then really helping you out. Talk about bad (no) bedside manners.

Repetitive stress syndrome sounds like carpal tunnel to me but I'm certainly not a doctor. As I understand it, carpel tunnel comes from repetitive motion.

I worked in a corporate legal department for nearly six years doing word processing and I started to have carpel tunnel issues. I found that if I took a week's vacation, it would get better for awhile but it did come back, sometimes worse than other times. In this day and age with all the technology, I can't imagine that there is nothing that can be done.

Did the doctor give you an arm brace to wear? The doctor I saw gave me one and it helped. I wore it while sleeping, and sometimes during the day too. It went from my wrist to my elbow and it had velcro strips to hold it closed. If you didn't get one, perhaps you can go by a medical supply store and purchase one to see if it will help for now.

I no longer work and I still have carpel tunnel issues from time to time. It's not too bad for the most part although I can trigger it when I type a certain way, and too fast, or even lifting groceries.

Go get that second opinion and maybe you can get more answers and better answers. You are very talented artist. Your work is beautiful! I don't blame you for wanting to continue making art. You should!

Hang in there Mandy and I love the cute bracelet!

Ugh that's so frustrating! But I'm glad you're going to continue on making art -- although it may pain your wrist, it does so much good for you in other [health-related] ways. I hope you can find a good solution for the pain, though. *hugs*

Mandy your Dr is full of it if he told you there was nothing you can do and will always have this.
I had the same thing with one of my arms and it got better you just need to rest it and dont do heat instead ice! try to take a break from pencils for a few weeks maybe painting would be easier on it? Just give it some time where you arent working it so much thats pretty much all you can do for now.

it will get better trust me!

Ah thanks so much my friends:D I agree, there will be a solution...I have been resting it quite abit however and the pain is present even still...I think it's natural for an artist espeacially to freak out when there's pain when they create...Jules, your right and I am starting on some watercolours for abit and not using my c.pencils as much BUT positivity will win out:D Thanks everyone:D

I love it that you made this to cheer up your wrist, plus it's adorable. I think these would go over well in etsy. It is so unique!

Let me know how things go with the acupuncturist.

Thanks so much for the positivity everyone...XXOO. I don't know that I'd be quite as worried if I weren't an artist and didn't use my hand as much.
